M1 Junction 19 improvement scheme

M1J19

James Vincent, Director, was involved in the work that completely redesigned and rebuilt the intersection of the M1, M6 and A14. This work involved:

  • Managing and leading a small team of engineers in the pavement team focused on installing the concrete step barrier, surface water channel, kerbs, footpaths, vehicles restraint system and pavement layers
  • Package, contract and programme management for the road construction subcontractors
  • Surveying and setting out all works
  • Writing, reviewing and briefing safe systems of work

The overall delivery of this project provides better transportation routes for the thousands of users of the junctions, as well as improved safety and overall, more reliability to the journey.

Waterloo and South West upgrade

Waterloo Station Upgrade

James Vincent, Director, was involved in the reconstruction of the Waterloo station which is the busiest station in Europe. This work involved:

  • Leading and managing a team of site engineers through the civil, mechanical, electrical and plumbing works
  • Contract and programme management of the MEP subcontractors for; fire, CCTV, PAVA and lighting
  • Writing, reviewing and briefing safe systems of work
  • Underground services coordinator for all activities penetrating ground adjacent to live services
  • Supervision and management of night-works and weekend-works including the planning and organising of trackside works

The purpose of this project was to increase station capacity by 30%, providing better journeys to the general public. The role helped with the delivery of this project, working with partners to meet targets and connect communities

Multiple Projects

Structural Engineering

James Vincent, Director, has been involved with multiple projects involving structural engineering. These projects all help improve infrastructure in the modern society all over the UK, as well as overseas. This work includes:

  • Design and detailing of concrete structures to BS EN 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993
  • Design of parapet systems and reinforcement detailing using BS 5400 for bridge constructions
  • Design of a structure to accommodate a rail track system using NR/CIV/L3/020 and BS EN 1992
  • Management and coordination of engineers and draughtsman to produce detailed drawings
  • Completion of temporary works design check certificates and calculation documents
  • Management and organisation of the common data environment for documentation
Regents Park Estate Demolition

HS2 Enabling Works

Demolition sometimes forms part of a project to improve spaces. James Vincent, Director, was involved in the demolition project which enabled HS2 works to proceed as planned. This involved:

  • Leading and managing a team of engineers involved in the construction of the site investigations and bridge extension
  • Package, contract and programme management of the track-side operations
  • Supervision and management of night works and weekend works during track possessions as well as high street environments
  • Temporary Works Supervisor and Appointed Person managing the controlled demolition of adjacent Buildings, producing and approving permits and ensuring Temporary Works process was followed. Development and implementation of safe systems of work, planning and organising the track works for the construction team
  • Completion of temporary works design check certificates and calculation documents
  • Championing and maintaining an innovative green wall on the façade of the site compound
M1 J13 - J16: Smart Motorway

M1J13-J16

The smart motorway upgrade of the M1, junctions 13 to 16, aims to improve the 23-mile section to support economic growth and ease congestion in the area. Adroit Civil Engineering was contracted to deliver on two major multimillion pound packages as part of this upgrade, as well as led on the initiative to help a colony of rare dormouse.

  • Leading and managing a team of engineers to deliver two major packages on the scheme: Pavement (£22 million) and Drainage (£29million)
  • Reviewing and approving safe systems of work within health, safety and environmental constraints. Managing the package programmes typically in a 6 month lookahead but also to project close using Microsoft Project, Aphex Planner, TILOS and P6 Primavera
  • Leading collaborative planning sessions between Contractors and hosting clash detection meetings to resolve planning issues
  • Planning and organising road closures and traffic management for Subcontractors works. Leading design management meetings, reviewing, managing and implementing design changes. Assessing Temporary Works Design drawings and checking the installation on site
  • Liaising and managing community relations issues with the Communications Team
  • Performing Package Manager responsibilities for the Subcontract, including all commercial duties such as; reviewing revised works information, issuing early working notices, site instructions, assessing compensation events, applications and payments. This also included regular programme reviews and issuance of defects
  • Producing and reviewing ITPs, MARs, NCRs, DOWLs and Defects. Managing all daily checksheets and technical documentation, approving red line drawings and producing handover documentation
